The Barclays London Eastern Pensioners Club enjoyed a really good afternoon at the Sondheim Theatre-London for a performance of the amazing "Les Miserables" Somehow our events organizer managed to get us really good seats at a reasonable cost.  A great time was had by all.

April

On a cloudy morning, a group of twenty members assembled at Manor Park station for a walk around Wanstead Flats and Park.

LEPC Committee member Kevin Mason led the walk, we learnt about the history of the flats, how it came to be a protected open space, how the land was used in wartime and more recently during the London Olympics and as a morgue during Covid times.

We left the flats and walked up to Wanstead Park for a tea stop and used the facilities prior to the highlight of the walk looking at the Bluebells in bloom in Chalet wood. We then walked around Heronry Lake taking time to look at the site of Wanstead House.

Back onto the flats we walked across many football pitches and saw where prefab housing had been erected after the Second World War.

The two-and-a-half-mile walk ended at the Gloden Fleece where the walkers’ enjoyed refreshments and a well-earned lunch.

We also enjoyed a few games of Bingo.  No hitches this time !

July

A day spent exploring Kent’s  Royal ports of Kings,  Faversham and Whitstable, the Jaunty seaside town famous for its  oysters.

Though they are only a few miles apart they are both very different in character. Faversham  has a fascinating and an ancient history. 

Whitstable was where to buy the oysters which the region is famous for today, plus it has an assortment of little boutique type shops, girly heaven!

53 members had a delightful day with Liz Findlay our professional guide. The new coach Company called Kelly’s did a great job with Vinnie our designated driver.

We had lunch  in the Mariner Hotel in Tankerton, near Whitstable, in a delightful room with excellent service and views of the coastline . A most enjoyable day out enjoyed by everyone.

          A visit to the King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace

To see an exhibition entitled 'Queen Elizabeth 2nd

her life in style.'

This comprised of a display of some 300 items worn by the late Queen during all ten decades of her life.

September

Once again our members gathered to meet up with old friends and colleagues for our Autumn Lunch at the Masonic Hall, Upminster. Our meal was, as always, excellent and we also held a raffle in aid of our chosen charity.

A most enjoyable afternoon in great company.
